Our members went on an exclusive tour of historic sites on Plum Island.
The Connecticut Trust arranged for a tour to Plum Island Animal Disease Center to look at the historic buildings on the island, including the Plum Island Lighthouse (built in 1869 and on the National Register), the Fort Terry army barracks (from the late 19th century), and 11 gun batteries built between 1897-1906.

The group also got in some bird watching with over 200 species of birds on the island. The animal disease center is a secure federal facility, which allows small groups to visit – though the island is temporarily closed to new visitors.
