In Ashford, we’ve helped a family preserve their legacy.

The 250-acre Church Farm in Ashford reflects the investment and stewardship of two families over almost 200 years.

Built in the 1820s by prosperous local farmer Zalmon Aspinwall, the fine Federal-style house and outbuildings passed to the Church Family in the 1840s.

The Church Family branched out into the clothing business by the 1880s, but continued stewarding the family farm as a working landscape and vacation property until the 1980s.

Now part of the Joshua’s Trust and the Eastern Connecticut State University’s Church Farm Center for the Arts and Sciences, the farm property remains in use and protected through an easement held by the Connecticut Trust. This easement will protect the legacy of the Aspinwall and Church families in perpetuity.
