Preservation Connecticut (Preservation CT) is seeking qualifications, estimated fees and hourly rates from architects and structural engineers to provide design and structural engineering reports, on an as needed basis. There are two categories of tasks described below. Applicants can apply for one or both depending on their interest and level of experience.

Preservation CT, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, was chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly (PA 75-93) to stimulate the preservation of historically and architecturally significant sites and districts.

As statutory partner to the State Historic Preservation Office, Preservation CT typically takes the lead on actions to prevent demolition of significant buildings through the CT Environmental Protection Act (CEPA).  These actions require 1.  site visits, 2. schematic/conceptual designs, 3.  structural reports, 4.  zoning reviews and 5. public testimony at the State Historic Preservation Council Meeting to assist in making our case to save a building.  The purpose of the exercise is to propose a prudent and feasible alternative to the proposed demolition of a building on the National Register of Historic Places.  Selected firms must work as a team with Preservation CT to coordinate an economically feasible strategy.  Please provide an hourly rate and/or fee structure to accomplish the work.

In addition, during our field work we encounter a need for a structural report or a schematic design and/or zoning review around certain buildings that may or may not be threatened (Technical Assistance Consultancy or TAC).  In this situation, besides the aforementioned scope, there would be a site visit, possible interaction with local partners or owners and a final report submitted to Preservation CT.  Please provide an hourly rate and/or fee structure for the work.

Criteria for selection:

  • Experience in historic preservation.  Please provide a resume, and experience or interest in historic preservation.  Indicate why you would want to be chosen for this.
  • Availability and flexibility to meet timetables and schedules.  Since many of these assignments come up suddenly, and there are pressures from funders and the State for completion, we need someone to work efficiently and quickly to meet the prescribed timelines.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team approach, with various state and local partners and owners of properties.  Provide examples.
  • Amount of Fee and hourly rate for work described.

Preservation CT is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.

Those interested in applying should send electronically a cover letter and resume, hourly rates and/or fee structure to Preservation CT by June 30, 2023, to be considered.  Please visit https://preservationct.org/consultants-rfp-submission to submit materials.
